How to Boss in all Black

It’s been a minute since I last shared a blog post. Last week, I took a much-needed vacation…more like a staycation, to rest and recharge. There’s something bliss about taking a breather from everything. Now that I’m back on the grind, I feel so motivated to work smarter. Looking back at my staycation experience, it turned out better than I actually expected. Unlike this summer, my time off work normally involves some form of traveling or site seeing. But I had a serious case of indecisiveness this year and ended up vacationing at home, lol. Staycations may seem mundane since it doesn’t involve exploring but I sure enjoyed spending most of the days in pajamas while watching TV and eating a lot of junk food. The perception of staycations being boring had me thinking about dressing fiercely in colors that are usually perceived to be ‘plain’.

No stylish human can escape styling in simple/plain colors like black. Whether you’re grandiose glam, simple inclined or straight out classic fashionista, you can always find an all-black outfit that caters to your stylish needs. Black outfits can be muted, extravagant and somewhere between both. I especially love to wear a fine balance of subtle yet edgy black clothes to the office. Playing with textures, volumes and structures come in very handy when composing elaborate black outfits. For example, velvet, sequins, feathers or jacquard textiles are often paired together to create haute couture garments. In addition, black items of clothing with ostentatious applique can come off sophisticated or avant-garde when styled simple. I pulled off a highly modern all-black outfit with the help of an exaggerated bow applique blouse (in this post).

I’ve included links (highlighted) to available outfit items below the first picture.

I’m a project manager by day and a fashionista/style enthusiast always. I have a diverse range of contradictory interests…fashion vs activism, ice cream cake vs spinach salad…but I love & proudly embrace them all.
